Non Compliant Products
As a member of Queensland ESO’s Electrical Equipment Committee, EDAA works closely with the Electrical Safety Office (ESO) and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to ensure a fair playing field occurs across the industry.
EDAA advises the ESO and the OFT of issues surrounding electrical appliances. These issues include product that don’t comply with regulations such as AS/NZS 3820 safety standards and MEPS. It also includes the unavailability of spare parts or after sales services.
The ESO is now conducting random checks in warehouses and stores across Queensland to ensure all products offered for sale meet the appropriate standards.
In February 2006, a Brisbane store was visited by the ESO with significant volumes of stock being apprehended.
Non Insulated Pins
The transition to the new ‘Insulated Live Pins on Appliances’ regulation occurred smoothly largely due to EDAA’s liaison between the ESO and members.
Trade Practices and Advertising
EDAA’s liaison with the OFT and ACCC regarding the trade practices regulation on retail advertising has assisted members’ to comply. It also resulted in an ACCC publication.
