Oven Door Safety Standards

As prescribed electrical equipment, domestic ovens require a certificate of approval prior to sale in Queensland.

Ovens are required to comply with AS/NZS3350.2.6 or AS/NZS 60335.2.6, a standard that addresses temperatures, mechanical strength and stability of door when open (for free standing ranges).

Currently, oven door temperatures cannot exceed certain temperature limits. If they do exceed those limits but are within 20 degrees then doors must carry a specific warning sign.

If the oven door is outside the temperature limits and does not carry the warning label then the product is deemed illegal and would warrant investigation by the Electrical Safety Office.

In June 2007, a new amendment of the standard will slightly change the wording and tolerances of the temperatures.
